Pink, Martha Russell and more! In a series of tele-interviews conducted by Dr. Sal these entrepreneurial counselors will discuss how they started and built their businesses and respond to your questions.
May Tele-Interview Focus . . .
More than any other career entrepreneur whom I have interviewed for this tele-interview series, I feel like Carolyn is one of us, a career counselor who has actually made it as a successful author and train-the-trainer in the career development field. Years ago I met Carolyn at a career or counseling conference where she had her own booth and was marketing her new book, Follow Your True Colors, Discover Your Unique Gifts and Talents. (now one of the top 10 best-selling career books). The book was very colorful, as was Carolyn, with her friendly, outgoing personality. At that time, I believe she was still working as a community college counselor.
After I met her, it seemed like each year she was becoming more and more well known in the field, helping career practitioners use her book and facilitating the True Colors Certification Training to inspire others to use their unique gifts and talents and guide them in making career decisions. Carolyn expanded her contributions to the field by joining and becoming active in the National Employment Counseling Association (NECA). She eventually became president of that organization. She continued to grow her business, wrote several more books, and now runs her own certification training. What a treat it is to have with us today Carolyn Kalil, a leading career and counselor educator, trainer, and author.
Please take a few minutes to complete Carolyn's free exercise prior to the tele-interview.
Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions during the interview. To help gauge how much time to reserve for participant questions and to make sure your questions is addressed, please send question(s) before the tele-interview to sal@gelardin.net.

Carolyn Kalil, MA, JCTC,
Carolyn Kalil, counselor, speaker, and author attended the first True Colors Certification Training in 1988 presented by Don Lowry, creator of True Colors and Sue Lynn, the MBTI President. Carolyn had a life altering experience during this training and immediately knew how to integrate this with her counseling work.
To Carolyn's surprise, Don Lowry had not written a book so she offered to write the first True Colors book. Her first work, based on this system, “How to Express Your Natural Skills and Talents in a Career” was published in 1989. It was used by college students to help them make career decisions. She collected enough research to write her second book, “Follow Your True Colors To The Work You Love” which was published in 1998. This book made the best selling career book list soon after being published. In addition to being used in colleges, it is also used in workforce centers, high schools, government agencies, on military bases and many other venues.
Her book also includes many applications for improving relationships. Fortune 500 Companies like Cisco Systems and Warner Brothers have used it for managerial training and team building. She consistently receives email testimonials from people sharing how their lives changed after reading this book. Many relationships have been healed and parent-sibling communication has reached new levels of understanding. People learn they no longer have to make others wrong just because they are different.
Carolyn is recognized internationally for her entertaining and interactive workshops on a variety of topics including; personality styles, maximizing strengths, career management, team building, customer service, relationship building and parenting styles. She is on a mission to inspire and assist others in discovering and using their unique gifts and talents. Carolyn is active in the Career Development field and the 2008 President of the National Employment Counseling Association, a division of the American Counseling Association, (ACA). She is a sought after speaker who receives the highest ratings for her keynote speeches, workshops and train-the-trainer events.
Carolyn earned her BA degree in Elementary Teaching in 1970 and her MA in Counseling in 1973 from Ohio State University. She taught elementary school for 2 years in South Central Los Angeles then began her 30-year counseling career at UCLA and El Camino Community College. She lives in Southern California with her family.
