The History of CAMECD

The California Association for Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development (CAMECD) has a rich legacy of professional contributions to measurement, assessment, evaluation, and research. A brief history is being prepared from files at CCA Headquarters to record that legacy. CAMECD members are invited to share facts, data, anecdotes, records, memories and other information.
As a beginning, here are a few benchmarks:

In 1967, CAMECD was one of the initial six chartered branch divisions of the California Counseling Association (CCA). CAMECD was a chartered state division of the Association for Assessment in Counseling (AAC).

At that time, CCA was known as CPGA (California Personnel and Guidance Association), CAMECD as CAMEG (California Association for Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance), and AAC as AMEG (Association for Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance).

In the 1980s, the national chartering organization, the American Personnel and Guidance (APGA), changed its name to American Association for Counseling and Development (AACD). CPGA became CACD (now CCA), AMEG became AMECD and CAMEG became CAMECD.

The earliest (fall 1973) CAMECD newsletter on file includes a record of interests in accountability in counseling, the evaluation of peer counseling, domain-referenced tests, guidance use of information retrieval systems, criterion-referenced testing, standards of competency in basic skills, scholastic aptitude tests, writing project proposals for funding, high school equivalency testing, and program evaluation models.
