REVISED CCA STRATEGIC PLAN (DRAFT)

2004-2009

 

A. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

 

1. Research and Evaluation: Research and evaluation data that support counseling will be promoted.

 

 

Create a current research document to support efficacy and effectiveness of counseling (especially school counseling).

 

 

Increase number of research articles. Submit a CCA Journal for publication.

 

 

Add a "how to" evaluate and do research document for members

 

2. Publications: Resource materials will be available for use by counseling professionals and graduate students.

 

 

Create handbooks, resource guides, desk guides for counselors.

 

 

Publish and distribute series of briefs to highlight topics of importance related to the counselor and counselee needs

 

 

Develop and publish a monograph series in conjunction with a highly visible publisher

 

 

Include a summary of recent research

 

 

Suggested topic: Establishing counseling relationships

 

 

Each division will write a monograph that will focus on the state of the art for the division to be published and sold within five years.

 

 

Develop series of publications that can be sold for profit.

 

 

Keep prices for all publications reasonable for individual purchase

 

3. Leadership Development

 

 

Establish a CCA Leadership Development training process for current and aspiring leaders.

 

 

Identify more leadership opportunities for CCA members and identify aspiring leaders.

 

 

Develop a proactive approach to bring counselors into the "Information Age".

 

4. Professional Development Plan

 

 

Have a schedule of professional development activities representing every division.

 

 

Develop a Professional Development Plan which has every division contributing and/or collaborating according to their focus/expertise which can be presented around the state. Include issues, information, theory, etc.

B. LEGISLATION

 

1. Increase lobbying efforts for CCA issues and concerns

 

2. Clarify the legal corporate issues in an information paper regarding legislative advocacy by a 501(C)(3) and 501(C)( 6) organization

 

3. Develop a public policy platform statement that addresses regulation of private practice and public awareness of counselors vs. non-counselors

 

4. Pass a counseling licensure bill

 

5. Pass a school counseling bill

C. GOVERNANCE

 

1. Reevaluate dues structure

 

 

- Restructure membership dues to reflect appropriate alignment to CCA Divisions/Affiliates

 

 

- Monitor membership dues and increase membership by 25%

 

2. Name change: Change name of CACD to CCA (California Counselor Association) to align with the national organization (ACA). (The CACD Executive Council should vote on a name change for the branch and if approved, submit the proposal to the CACD membership for a vote.)

 

Reevaluate the need and plan for selecting new Executive Director/Coordinator in the next 1 to 5 years.

 

Develop plan for greater inclusion of members in governance, leadership participation and association activities

D. FUNDRAISING

 

1. Develop fund-raising strategies and implement efforts through

 

 

- statewide campaign

 

 

- seek affiliate and foundation support

 

 

- support local fundraising efforts

 

2. Increase corporate sponsorship and funding of CCA

 

3. Develop a core team to explore funding opportunities, train and be available to division and affiliates for timely funding of proposal opportunities, team will develop a plan that will include: a) identifying sources of funding, and b) developing proposals to seek funding to help pay for the goals that are accepted by the executive council

E. DIVERSITY:

 

1. Publications:

 

 

Develop position papers on substantial issues affecting worth, dignity and enhancement of potential

 

 

Develop a monograph on promoting gender and ethnic equity

 

2. Membership Outreach:

 

 

Promote cultural diversity within its membership and in counselor education programs throughout the state of California

 

 

Increase membership of multiculturally diverse individuals

F. PROMOTION AND VISIBILITY: Advance the Profession

 

1. Public Relations- External

 

 

Launch a large scale public awareness campaign regarding counseling in education and counseling in California

 

 

Develop a more favorable logo, catchy phrase for a slogan

 

 

Send letters to chairpersons, department heads, deans statewide to promote counseling

 

 

Identify a publicity chairperson and committee to develop PSAs (Public Service Announcements), press releases, TV spots

 

2. Public Relations- Internal

 

 

Produce a marketing plan that is relevant and meaningful to current and potential members.

 

 

Develop a directory for CCA that will include name, address, phone number, fax number, email and possibly job title and workplace.

 

 

Hold town meetings to increase member input and encourage participation in leadership and goverance activities.

 

 

Develop closer relationships between divisions and affiliates of CCA through:

 

 

 

- sharing at executive committee of individual goals & activities

 

 

 

- packets at conference with information on activities, goals, purpose

 

 

 

- seminars, workshops, speakers to share information at conference

 

 

Design new counselor PR packet with new color/design

 

 

Share reports (written/oral) among CCA Board members and in Compass
